Practical Deep Learning without a PhD

December 5, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Join us at Makervillage for a workshop on Deep Learning with Tory Young, an Infosec Innovation Lead for a major financial institution!

In this workshop, Tory will talk about the tools and techniques you can use to be successful in Deep Learning (AKA, AI) without a data science or mathematics background. His goal is to eliminate the notion that Deep Learning is only for PhDs and data scientists with access to a supercomputer. He will demonstrate how an average computer user with an internet connection and a few dollars can begin solving real world problems with deep learning – no coding required. For the coders in the audience, he will also show that with a few lines of python you can solve even more complex problems and even make predictions about the future.

We will absolutely not be discussing the math or theory behind deep learning! He will introduce some of the core concepts and vocabulary behind deep learning but the bulk of the discussion is centered around using deep learning to solve real problems. We’re going to start by teaching a computer to recognize images of cats and dogs. Sounds fun but a little difficult to apply to real world, right? Actually, the same algorithm that can recognize cats can also learn to recognize cancer in medical images, locate pedestrians in self-driving cars or detect crop failure from aerial images. We’ll also teach a computer to perform sentiment analysis on product and movie reviews. Think that 4 star rating meant they liked your product or service? Let’s find out what they’re really saying to help you address your customers feedback.

This workshop is open to coders, technologists, marketing pros, futurists and AI enthusiasts.
