This class teaches kids cooking basics and safety in a creative and hands-on approach. Students will learn a new recipe each week along with testing out the skills it takes to prep and make each recipe. At the end of the course, each student will leave with a certificate, their own handmade Kids Kitchen Cookbook, loads of goodies, and a Youtube-style group video they make themselves!

Week One- Campfire Kitchen Stories

  • We’ll build our own solar ovens, cook hot dogs and smores while learning some basic kitchen and food safety skills.
  • Lunch will be provided by Speakcheesy Food Truck.
  • We’ll decorate and create the first page for our Kid’s Kitchen Cookbook and journal.
  • Lastly, we’ll share our favorite cooking memories from home and get to know our classmates around a “campfire”. Goodies made in class go home with the students.

Week Two – Young Frankensteins – Scientist in the Kitchen!

  • We’ll start class off testing the conditions under which bread yeast grows with the help of a special guest chef.
  • We’ll make and bake quick breads.
  • Lunch will be provided by Speakcheesy Food Truck.
  • We’ll take a tour of the Speakcheesy truck and play a game identifying what you would and wouldn’t find in a kitchen.
  • We’ll make homemade butter in a glass jar.
  • Lastly, we’ll work on the second page of our recipe journal adding in today’s lessons. Goodies made in class go home with the students.

Week Three – Pancake Picassos and Kitchen Archeologists

  • We’ll get some measuring experience while digging through common cooking ingredients to find the pieces of our puzzle on measurements.
  • Lunch will be provided by the Speakcheesy Food Truck.
  • We’ll put our new measuring skills to work with Picasso Pancakes – we’ll create pancake art with colorful pancake batter paintings in small groups with an adult helper on electric griddles.
  • We’ll create our third page of our cookbook and journal adding our measurements puzzle page and reflecting on our lesson. Goodies made in class go home with the students.

Week Four – Kids Cooking Star!

  • We’ll divide into groups to write our own Pizza Making YouTube cooking channel video script and decide on a sweet or savory pizza recipe.
  • We’ll gather and measure the ingredients for our pizza. Use day two knowledge to make our pizza dough and let it rise.
  • Lunch will be provided by the Speakcheesy Food Truck.
  • We’ll film our step by step pizza videos while decorating our mini pizzas with a plethora of both sweet and savory toppings.
  • We’ll work on the final page of our cookbook and journal.
  • Kids Kitchen graduation certificates awarded.
  • All students will be emailed a link to their edited video after class.
